Who am I and what am I about?
Good question actually!
My name is Elisha, I’m 28 and live in Melbourne, Australia.
I'm passionate about cooking and baking, health and fitness, filling my body with nutritious food and keeping my digestive issues under control! I also love ice cream, burgers, peanut butter and Nutella. I am not one to preach the dangers of sugar or a high fat diet, as I believe that moderation is the key and that's how I live my life.
A little about myself, my journey and how I got here today…..
Three years ago I found myself so tired and drained that I could barely bring myself to leave my desk for a much needed coffee. When I couldn't move for coffee, I knew something was wrong! Work was a nightmare - I was exhausted, was barely making it through the day and was napping for two hours every afternoon. I was plagued with the most horrible digestive issues and it had come to the point that I was avoiding eating and social occasions due to embarrassment. Numerous trips to the doctors pointed to Coeliac Disease - positive blood work, the DNA marker but albeit, it was not. Negative tests to food intolerances left me clueless, distraught and wondering what was wrong with me?!
Finally a nutritionist put me on the path of a low FODMAP diet (more about this on the nutrition advice page). I followed this strictly and I slowly got better - I wasn’t napping anymore, my stomach was happy and my headaches and rashes had disappeared! The beating my body took made me realise that I needed to start treating myself a little better and I wanted to help people do the same thing, so I enrolled in an Advanced Diploma of Nutritional Medicine, which I love. I started to experiment with a variety of foods and have cut out a lot of rubbish I used to eat. My body loves me for it and is now happy most of the time.
I have always hit the gym regularly, been a big fan of weight training, but as I started to feel better and my body started to absorb the nutrients it was lacking, I started to put on weight. Not much, but I was getting rounder, softer and I was feeling unhappy with my body. I was training two times a day and was wearing myself out and not getting the results I wanted. I was not eating anywhere near enough to fuel my body and the exercise I was doing and I needed a change. I started seeing a PT, actually began eating more and my body responded, losing 30 cms off my body in 12 weeks. I then made the giant leap into the world of bodybuilding (yes that’s right!!) and entered a bikini model competition in September, 2013. I didn't win or place but I achieved something that I never thought was possible for me and have come out a more confident person, with a stronger mindset.
My views on food and nutrition have changed significantly since I started this blog over a year ago. I am not so rigid toward food and now eat whatever I want (in moderation) without worrying about calories and if it will make me fat!
I absolutely love to cook, create and taste, although my boyfriend does most of the tasting! I thrive on the positive feedback I have received whilst writing this blog, so keep it coming! Please feel free to contact me with any health / fitness / nutrition related questions, as I am always happy to have a go at answering them!
